I’ve lived in Charleston for over 20 years and I’ve always supported this place and the prices have always been high, but that didn’t deter me because I’ve always enjoyed being in there and being around all the beautiful plants. I went in this morning (3 days before Christmas) to pick up a few last minute things to round out my decorating expecting to find the quality of things I saw 2 weeks ago and instead was met with dried dying garland and staff that just shrugged their shoulders when I pointed out that they were charging the same prices they had when everything was fresh. I understand they have a business to run, but after already spending thousands of dollars here over the years in support of local business, I’m drawing the line. Where’s the integrity Hyams?!
Listen, I’m an idiot when it comes to plants and trees. So I asked the staff what soil I’d need for a potted tree (I bought the pot from them). I was told the checkout people could help me with that. The person rang up the pot. I told her I needed soil for the pot. I explained twice it was for the pot which would be outside. She rang me up for the soil. A guy came to load it. I noticed it said gardening mix. Being a noob, I asked if this was the right soil for the pot he just loaded into my car. He affirmed it was. I spent a good bit of time repotting and then decided it was a good idea just to check. Everything I read said to use potting mix in a pot. Which makes sense. Obviously. So now I’ve wasted 30 bucks and more importantly a ton of time. I went there to support local business and bc I thought they’d be better able to answer my question than a big box site. Boy was I wrong! Overpriced and useless. Avoid.
I was able to visit this place today during my trip to Charleston. Beautiful plants inside and the people were very friendly. They are very dog, friendly. My dogs enjoyed treats and rubs from the staff and other shoppers. I love the plants and I really enjoyed the Christmas shop too. Was able to get an orchid and several other plants for a very decent price. Even got one of the markdown plants for a great price. They have lots of things to go with your plants too If you need it. We’ll definitely go back to this place.
I have gone here since I was a kid...I enjoyed it then and I enjoy it still. My kids LOVE to come here too and explore the grounds. Ms. Daniel is so patient and helpful...she is worth speaking with and learning from. Please take them by the Japanese Garden, they will love it! Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Healthy plants. I come here every spring to get inspired and purchase plants. They are pricy and you get what you pay for!
I love this plant store and come here for all my plant needs. They have good quality and unique tropicals that are hard to find at other location or too expensive. You know you’re getting a plant that is well treated for and less likely to have pests or die when you bring it home. All of the employees are extremely knowledgeable as well. Not to mention how beautiful and photogenic it is.
