Chelsea Garden Center - Kings County NY

I just started learning plants/gardening and I’m hooked on this place. They have everything and the staff are very nice. I like that they don’t hover but are very knowledgeable if you need help.

My partner and I couldn’t live without the Chelsea Garden Center! Super friendly staff with great advice and magnificent plants! We’re so excited for our Brown Turkey Fig from them (plus the tomatoes and marigolds)!

I’ve been a customer since this shop was located in Chelsea, and my family has been coming here for over 15 years because of my rooftop garden. During a recent move, many of my plants struggled after going from a west-facing setup to a full-sun south-facing apartment, so I stopped by around 6:40 PM to ask for advice on plants better suited to the new conditions. Unfortunately, I was told, “We are not a nursery.” While checking out with a dahlia, I also asked about some indoor plants I had purchased there in the fall that had since died from too much sun, both indoors and outdoors. The cashier told me they were closed and could not answer questions, even though it was still before 7 PM. When I mentioned the posted closing time, I was told, “We are closed now.” I understand staff need time to close up, but if customer assistance ends 20–30 minutes before closing, the posted hours should reflect that. It was disappointing after being a loyal customer for so many years.

We have a neighbor nearby who runs a flower business, and we’ve had a very positive experience with them over time. They offer a wide selection of fresh flowers and arrangements, and there is always something nice to choose from. The people working there are very friendly and respectful. It is always a pleasure to interact with them — communication is easy, and everything is handled in a calm and professional way. There is a very positive atmosphere around the place, and you can feel that they treat both their business and customers with care. The manager is a serious and responsible man who clearly takes his business very seriously. Everything is organized, consistent, and done the right way. You can tell this is not just a casual setup — it is a well-run business with attention to detail. Overall, it’s a great local business with good energy, good people, and reliable service. We appreciate having them nearby and definitely recommend them.

Chelsea garden is amaaaazing. It is my go to for all native plants and flora. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Very grateful for this slice of green.
