I will start by saying that I loved this place. If I needed or wanted plants or anything plant related, they were always my first stop. Sadly this will not continue. I recently purchased 4 identical plants. I hadn’t planted them due to a two day storm, so all four plants have been sitting together on my front step - all getting the same amount of rain and sunlight. Over the last three days two of the plants were thriving and two kept looking worse and worse. Two of them are nearly dead now. So I went back to Dutch’s and spoke with the greenhouse manager. I completely understand a policy and I can respect a policy. What I can’t respect is being spoken to as if I am a complete idiot. “Well, plants need water,” “you’ve been delinquent,” “it’s simple, they are suffering because they haven’t been watered.” Over and over again. Yes, of course I understand they need water. I have over 100 plants in my home - I know how to care for and water plants. What doesn’t make sense is that four plants that all received the same attention (sadly not much from me - so perhaps a little delinquent - although he didn’t need to call me that), they all got the same light and rain - so why are two nearly dead and two beautiful? So his solution is to cut it all back and it will come back next year looking just fine. I would have bought the little plants if that was what I was interested in. I got the larger ones so that they would begin to bloom and spread in my yard this year (these are ground covering plants…). If what was said to me was something like “I’m really sorry. I understand why you are frustrated. Plants can be finicky. Here’s what I recommend doing.” I would have accepted that. But being told over and over again as if I am a child “well plants need water” at least a dozen times in a minute or so - not appreciated in the least. I will now find a different local place for my plant needs. For all those who continue to shop at Dutch’s, I wish you luck and I hope that you never have to have a conversation/lecture from the greenhouse manager.
What an amazing store to purchase plants, garden supplies, and landscaping decorations. They have unique flowers which you can't find at Lowes or Home Depot. The flowers we selected will make our home pop and not have the same look as all our neighbors. We will be back again!!!
I love , love, love this place. I joke that if you ever want to see where the other half get their plants from, this is the place. Looking for those plants you see in the magazine which are already full grown and matured, again this is the place. I confess, it's my distressing location, the selections are mind blowing. However, even if I only have a $5 bill, I am treating myself to something. In closing, did I say, I love this place?
I’ve come to really like this place. Their prices are probably on the high side, but I feel like they have such a good selection in such a beautiful greenhouse that it is worth a visit. And I’ve noticed that each time I’ve purchased a house plant they take the time to tell you how to care for it. And we always find something interesting and different. I’ve gotten about five different plants from them and I’ll certainly come back in the future.
Been going here for years & it makes me happy to walk among the plants, inside or out. The employees are friendly & helpful.
