I’m a plant lover from Boston. Aww I felt I was in heaven. I found rare cactuses other plant nurseries in LA didn’t have. I would return every time I come to LA. And air plants selection was just amazing. This will be my go-to place in LA!
I love coming here — I always discover surprising plants. The best part is that their prices are actually cheaper than Home Depot. If you’re looking for medium to large plants, I highly recommend this place. Every pot looks very healthy. I’m currently waiting for the spring season so I can get water plants, especially lotus. The staff here are very kind, and I will definitely come back again! There’s also a coffee shop nearby, so after browsing the plants with friends, you can go for a coffee — it’s a wonderful and relaxing way to spend an afternoon.
I’ve shopped at Sunset Nursery several times. They have an incredible selection of succulents, a strong variety of California native species, and one of the best selections of planters I’ve seen in all sizes. If you’re looking for something specific or more unique, they’re likely to have it. Their prices are generally higher than big box stores, but that can be expected from a local nursery with a more specialized inventory. Unfortunately, the customer service has been a recurring issue. The staff are rarely warm, and during my most recent visit the experience crossed a line. About ten minutes before closing, multiple employees lined up near us and began pressuring us to leave. One employee directly asked, “Are you even going to buy something?” — which I was, until that interaction. They also started turning off the lights while we were still browsing. I understand that no one wants customers lingering past closing time, but there’s a professional and respectful way to communicate that. This felt coordinated, aggressive, and unnecessarily demeaning. I generally prefer supporting local businesses over big box retailers like Home Depot or Lowe’s. However, those stores have been improving their plant selection, and while their staff may not always be as knowledgeable, they are consistently polite. Because Sunset Nursery is a local business, I’m not writing them off completely. I hope this feedback is taken seriously. A great selection is important, but customers should be treated with basic courtesy and respect.
Sunset Nursery is a beautiful oasis of plant nursery that sells all garden related stuff. It’s located along Sunset blvd in Silver Lake neighborhood of LA. They have all types of plants, pots, bird feeder, plant seeds, etc. Prices are reasonable and competitive. Staff were helpful and hardworking professional. Parking lot is very limited. Overall, it’s a nice nursery shop to get plants and garden related stuff. I recommend them.
I went today for the first time to find some cat friendly plants what would fit my apartment. They had every plant on my list and had a whole section of house plants that were 50% off! They have a large selection of planters in various colors to fit any home. They were super helpful and helped me pick out the right size planters AND repotted all of my plants for free. The plants are all cat approved and I can’t wait to go back for more. I got a money tree, Chinese money plant, 2 spider plants, a fern and 3 tiny polka dots plants we put in the same pot.
