I absolutely adore pick-your-own fruit places! Webb Ranch grows some great blackberries and lets you eat as many as you’d like while you pick some to take home. My advice is to show up immediately when they open; I was 10mins late, and that’s enough time for people to pick tons of prime berries. And then, eat as many berries as you can. Eat a few for each one that you place in the carton.
I felt this was a sad story of the California drought. Olallieberries are supposed to be twice as long as black berries and yummy sweet. I’m from Oregon and know exactly what they supposed to look like and how they taste. This was Not the case. Luckily I live on the peninsula & didn’t travel as far as some people did, only to show up to be disappointed 😔… Tiny berries and not much to pick. Plus that heavenly taste was NOT there. You can see by the photos the proof of how little there was. We couldn’t even pick 1 lbs & that cost $12… 😢 I’d thought for the hiked up price, they used a little more water 💦. Today, at Webb Ranch U Pick was a total FAILURE 😣… Going back to Brentwood, where the fruit was worth the trip…
The berries were very tasty. but there were not many because of the draught. Some of the ones we found were very tasty. They charge 4$ per person which I felt is reasonable.
Just what we were looking for! Not every row was 'equal' - some were not doing so well, where other rows were booming. The red raspberries weren't doing so well, but the golden ones had comparable flavour. The blackberries were very well maintained, all canes off the ground and nicely shady in the morning, and picked up very quickly. They had plenty of parking, plenty of signs to direct people through the ranch, boxes provided for picking. A couple bathrooms too. Bringing a wagon definitely makes sense if you've got small kids, or are looking to pick a lot of berries. Rather than passing through the narrow archways (lovely for photos), you'll see pros heading to the left or right to avoid the traffic jam.
One last family outing before the school starts? Head over to Webb ranch, the blackberries are in abundance now (Aug 2021); our kids enjoyed picking and eating at the same time! More than 40 rows of berry goodness!! Tracie was the person in charge and looks like she and her boys did an amazing job of maintaining the berry fields. Webb Ranch is one family leased ranch, the 3 daughters of the ranch take great pride in their family business and it shows in how lovingly the ranch is maintained; how everyone greets and welcomes one another and are always ready to help their guests! Take a left from the U pick exit and you will reach the Stables where there are horse riding classes and beautiful horses, well maintained grounds!
