I purchased a saguaro cactus and a Chuparosa bush from Richards Garden. I am very happy with my purchase. They have a great selection and iv been to many garden nurserys and this is the first time someone explained and told me what soil and plant food I needed for each plant. He also provided a paper with instructions on how deep to plant and with many information on things I wan not aware of. If you are buy there I highly recommend stopping by and having a look. I promise you that you will come out with a plant or 2. I was also happy to come out with a native plant that I can add to my garden to help support the wildlife.
What can I say, this is just a rad old school nursery. Fantastic assortment of beautiful fruit trees and the staff is about that life. I've been to nurseries across the valley but this is truly a hidden gem. Don't have that much room left to plant but the trees were just that good. Ended up leaving with: Mexican Cream Guava, Champagne Loquat, Panache Tiger Fig, Hosui Asian Pear and Sanguinelli Blood Orange. If you are ever in North Phoenix area stop by, you are in for a treat!!!
Richard’s has a great variety of plants suited for Arizona and knowledge to go with. The bagged soil they produce/sale is so healthy I used in my raised beds. They are friendly, helpful and never judge a ‘brown thumb’ like me. Thanks Richard’s!
Don't go here, don't buy there plants. Horrible customer service, very rude, unprofessional, and just shitty quality plants that are root bound, old and dying. The manager literally ripped a pot out of my hand as I was buying it and yelled at me saying to take my "business elsewhere" because I mentioned the pot was 3/4th empty of soil. The manager got in my face and was so aggressive I felt uncomfortable and like he was trying to get in a fight. I previously asked if they had this specific plant that wasn't root bound and not one with half of the leaves dead. When they said no, I was planning to buy the plant anyway because I drove all the way up from Tucson, but as I was checking out I asked why the pot was missing 3/4 the soil and he ripped the pot out of my hands. I told him as he ran away with the pot still yelling insults at me that I was still willing to pay the $90 for the plant even though it looked like it was going to die. He screamed that I should leave. It was an insane and unprofessional experience. The guy was rude immediately when I got there but it was just crazy how butt hurt he got from asking questions about the health of a $90 tree. Honestly, the tree wasn't worth $40, it was root bound, practically a bonsai, half dead, dried dead leaves, dead branches, and in a 5 gallon pot that didn't even have a 1gallon worth of soil in it, but I drove all the way there so I figured I buy it anyway. If you want to to see for yourself ask to see their White Sapote. I left because the whole staff was insulting me and saying I should think twice about insulating their plants. Very bizarre and weird interaction. You should definitely go somewhere else.
Richard's Garden Center was a place of wonderment! I found that there were endless varieties of trees fruiting and non fruiting in different sizes. I loved that there was a good amount of shade from trees planted on property, this also provided some extra perspective as well. I really liked the banana trees. There were grapes, peach, plum, mulberry, apple, citrus, apricot, pear, fig, pomegranate, mango and more fruiting trees. They appeared to be in very good health. I took note of a pretty nice looking Mexican Sycamore and I will definitely be coming back for 2. They were a bit larger for my SUV. 😁 There is more info on their Facebook page and you can reach out by message with questions. Haley helped me out with all my questions and really was like a personal tour guide. I do not live so close to this nursery but I feel like the quality of product and people is an investment that will pay off in the long run. If your thinking of making the trip just do it, just leave me some Sycamore and Banana trees!
